How did ancient people draw pictures of dinosaurs

Many ancient drawings have been found that have a remarkable similarity to dinosaurs. But how could this be if these ancient people had never seen a living (or a dead) dinosaur? As incredible as it may seem, perhaps the best explanation is the obvious one – they really had seen dinosaurs.
